The bathroom is one area where germs and bacteria really build up over time. This is a hot spot area that needs to be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis to keep things sanitized for employees and guests alike. Many things can be done to limit the buildup of these germs, but you must know how to properly disinfect a bathroom.

How can you keep up with cleaning this area between commercial cleaning appointments? Here are some of our expert tips to keep your bathrooms sparkling:

Treat the Sinks

You may not realize it right away, but your sink can harbour plenty of grime even if all you do is use it to wash your hands with soap and water. Not to mention, it’s one of the first things that people see when they enter your restrooms. Fortunately, disinfecting the sink is a relatively simple thing to do.

All you need is a sponge or cleaning cloth and a disinfectant cleaner designed for bathroom use. Liberally spray the cleaner on the sink, faucets, and handles. Allow it to soak for the amount of time listed on the bottle to ensure that it kills all of the bacteria. When done, simply wipe down the sink with your sponge or cloth.

Cleaning the Toilets

While the sink may be the first thing noticed in the bathroom, the toilet is where serious germs lurk. Cleaning it thoroughly requires several steps, but it isn’t that hard to do with the right materials. First, you’ll need to treat the inside of the bowl with a toilet bowl cleaner. You can leave the cleaner to soak while you do the rest of the cleaning.

The easiest way to clean the rest of the toilet is with a disinfectant wipe. Be sure to wipe down all parts of the toilet seat, lid, and even the handle. Pay attention to all parts of the toilet that will frequently come in contact with your employees or guests.

When finished, you can use a toilet brush to scrub the inside of the bowl with the cleaner that’s been soaking. Flush the toilet and then spray the brush with a disinfectant cleaner before putting it away.

Floors

Don’t forget that the floors are important too! Spray them down with a high-quality cleaner that’s safe for the flooring type you have. Mop it up with a bit of gusto, and your floors can look like new again! If you have tile, don’t forget to use a gel cleanser and scrub brush to really clean up those grout lines.
